A New, Patriotic, Democratic AMERICA

Flag of the Patriotic Democrats

Preface:

It has been said across the political spectrum from far left to far right that America is a “falling empire” that needs to be made “great again.”  I don’t hold such a negative outlook on my country. Amongst all Americans, there is a feeling that something new must take place— The feeling that these United States (as fragmented as they may seem in these times) must change course to be brought into the future. I think it may be time to redefine what “patriotism” looks like in the face of this change, and the new challenges that the modern age brings. I would propose that America get a Rejuvenation of Democracy. Everyday Americans, today, hold less and less power over what is supposed to be the greatest, oldest, democracy in the world. The control and agency that Americans once held over their own destiny dwindles away at their feet and they must fight to regain it. All Americans must unite under the stars and stripes and under the banner of the human race and take control over their future.

Policy Positions: Our first and foremost position is that democracy is non-negotiable. We hold that the common people must hold authority over how their government, and those institutions that dictate their livelihoods matter. We hold that we as humans, and particularly as Americans are born with certain “unalienable rights” as Jefferson put it in the Declaration of Independence. We can list and explain the rights that all Americans— all human beings are entitled to.

    I. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness: These rights were listed in the Declaration all of those years ago and laid the foundation for the birth of a new type of nation— That of the Democratic Republic. Our founding fathers knew that monarchy and tyranny led only to misery and poverty for those who were unlucky enough to be born without a royal style.

II.  Influence: This right is shown largely in our First and Second Amendments. Americans are constitutionally owed a right to influence over their government. Through elections, through protest, and through petition. This right has often been trampled whether based on class, or ethnic background, or on the basis of sex. It is imperative that Americans have and use the right to influence. We propose a National Town Hall— A body where Americans can hold discussions with their leaders and with each other on what policies would best suit them; a body where experts, workers, and common people can discuss what must be done to preserve our great republic. An opinion that often goes unregarded is the right that Americans have (or perhaps should have) to influence over their work, and over what they produce. Many an American complain that their bosses, that the ruling classes, make decisions that may seem mind-numbing to a person who actually does a certain job. Under our New Patriotic Democracy, we hope to see an America where labor, where working people have a say in how their work is done; an America that values their experience, and an America that allows them to share in all of the wealth that they create.

III. Nourishment: The right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, is impossible without food in every belly. It is shameful that we have children who go hungry in the richest, most powerful country on the planet. It is equally shameful that there are children in this world who go hungry, during the most productive period in human history. In order for democracy to be rejuvenated— for America to experience her rebirth, all men, women, and children in this country must have access to clean water, and healthy, affordable accessible food. A small share of companies control all of the food that people around the world consume. It is time for a mass movement of Americans, and the government that represents them to compete with these companies. This country will not survive when healthy food is a luxury. We would provide that America work with experts in the fields of nutrition and policy to craft a brand that can work directly with farmers, and compete with those corporations that wish to extract wealth from us, and starve our people.

IV. Shelter: Similar to Nourishment, the right to shelter is often overlooked, but is still a major component of one’s right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The United States has one of the largest unhoused populations in the developed world, and yet we have more empty homes than filled ones. The pricing of rent, of housing is completely out of control and young people are being priced out of their homes. Like with Nourishment. It is time for the American people and those who represent them to directly compete. To undercut the big money groups that are dedicated to keep Americans away from long-term wealth building.

 V. Wealth: The phrase that “Every man shall be a King” has long been thought of as a myth. Or the wild fantasy of some person who has never struggled, but now we are living in the most productive period in human history. It is now the time for the people of this country, the people who fought for their independence and for their freedom from bondage to turn our eyes to the people who rob us blind. The people of these United States of America must come together and make their voice heard. We all deserve to profit from our work. We deserve to share in the profits that are stolen from us. All Americans are shareholders in this Democratic Republic and it is time to make our dividends
